It is not often I take a few moments to breathe… and share some thoughts about what is happening on one extraordinary night, Saturday July 8th—Bay Street Theater’s very first gala since before Covid!!! (And yes, I’m aware other organizations held their galas during Covid. But Bay Street’s risks were too high during that time. In fact, it was the first time in Bay Street’s history that we were forced not to abide by the old adage ‘the show must go on.’) So, this is why after 4 years, we are now MORE than ready to share one extraordinary night with all of you.
BAY STREET THEATER'S
ANNUAL SUMMER GALA
SATURDAY, JULY 8 @ 6:30 pm
At Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.
NOW I HEAR YOU ALREADY ASKING, HOW THE H-LL ARE THEY GOING TO DO A GALA IN THEIR THEATER?
Well, let’s start with what you think of as a gala.
Then throw all that away.
There will be no big round tables. Nope, none of that. You won’t be saying “I-can’t-believe-I’m-stuck-sitting-here-next-to-this-guy-all-night!” And you won’t be sitting under the usual tent, trying not to get your heel caught in the grass, or sweating profusely, or having to use those porta-potties. (And let’s face it—even the ‘nice’ ones are what they are.) Nope, there will be none of that.
SO, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Your evening will start in a beautifully air-conditioned space with a surprise look into the behind the scenes of what really makes Bay Street, well, Bay Street. From your very entrance, the surprises will delight and entertain, as you witness firsthand all that goes on into creating theatrical magic within the crazy walls of this WWII munitions building. You’ll wander and mingle and drink and dine with the folks you really want to see. You’ll be served trays and trays of delicious dishes and drinks as you wander or gather at small tables as you wish…. on the stage itself or in the lobby or elsewhere. But we’re not going to give it all away, because then it wouldn’t be a surprise now, would it?
SO, WHAT ELSE?
Let’s just agree, this won’t be your grandmother’s gala. No rubber chicken.
No really long speeches….Ok, just a few short ones to honor some really,
really talented theater stars.. Julie Andrews, Sarah Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick.
Musical tributes, a short auction with Isaac Mizrahi, followed by dancing in one area, singalong in another, and you’ll be saying "WOW. Now THAT was a night!!"
AND IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH?? It is, but in case you’re still saying well… it’s a lot of money….. but not when you consider this:
All funds raised go to support Bay Street’s educational programs, along with the hard work in creating inclusivity for everyone including ‘Pay What You Can Nights’, ‘Free Student Sundays’, and a policy that we live by, that “anyone who wishes to have access to the arts will have it at Bay Street Theater!!!"
IN A DEMCORACY LIKE OURS, EVERYONE DESERVES TO EXPERIENCE THE ARTS. NO ONE SHOULD NEED A PERMISSION SLIP TO DREAM. ART SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A PRIVILEGE, BUT RATHER A NECESSITY LIKE THE VERY AIR WE BREATHE.
HELP US TO MAKE THAT A REALITY FOR ALL!
