Men of Courage takes viewers inside communities across New Jersey, following five Black and Latino men who use their experiences and influence to help disrupt generational cycles of gender-based violence. Through candid conversations with boys and men in their communities, they challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors toward girls and women and demonstrate the important role men can play in ending gender-based violence.
Following the screening, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion and Q&A featuring:
Moderated by Dr. Jarvis Watson.
Set in Oakland, California, Flower is a 28-minute movement-based film starring Misty Copeland as Rose, a young woman who has placed her dreams on hold to care for her mother, Gloria, who is living with dementia. As Rose struggles with caregiving and housing insecurity, she watches her neighborhood change around her while searching for a way to keep a roof over their heads.
Told largely through dance and movement, Flower explores caregiving, dementia, intergenerational equity, housing insecurity and the power of community. The film features original music by Grammy Award-winning artist Raphael Saadiq and choreography by Alonzo King and Rich + Tone Talauega.
Following the screening, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion and Q&A exploring the powerful connections between caregiving, generations, housing, and the affordability challenges shaping our communities. Panelists include:
