Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird

Direct from Broadway, Aaron Sorkin casts Scout and Jem Finch as the narrators in recounting their experiences of the time in which their father participated in the controversial trial of a black man in a small 1930s Alabama town.

Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, adapted for the stage by acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin, brings audiences into the heart of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s, where attorney Atticus Finch is called upon to defend Tom Robinson, a Black man falsely accused of a violent crime.

Told through the eyes of Scout, Jem, and Dill, the story unfolds around a trial that forces a family and a community to confront prejudice, injustice, courage, compassion, and the difficult question of what it truly means to do the right thing.

Powerful, immediate, and deeply human, this acclaimed stage adaptation brings Harper Lee’s unforgettable characters and timeless story to life in the intimacy of Bay Street Theater.

These productions are chosen from the NY State Common Core curriculum to reinforce educational experiences. This show follows the story written by Harper Lee, which is intrinsically mature in themes, plot, and language. We do not recommend those under 12 years of age attend the show and would like to emphasize the potentially upsetting nature of To Kill a Mockingbird for those too young to process the painful realities this piece of fiction illustrates.

    Mitchell is a New York City-based actor represented by Rebel Creative Group. His television credits include Law & Order: SVU, FBI: Most Wanted, Tommy, and the History Channel docu-series The Cars That Built America and The Food That Built America. Off stage, he's performed as a musician under the band name Keeping Riley, and his music can be heard on Spotify. His favorite pastimes include writing birthday cards, snowboarding fresh powder, exploring national parks, sipping iced coffee, reading, and drifting off to cozy nature sounds on YouTube. He credits his mother for his love of cottage cheese and his father for his passion for chopping wood and lighting a fire in the fireplace. This production of To Kill a Mockingbird marks Mitchell’s first time at Bay Street Theater, and he is thrilled to be part of this story in Sag Harbor.

    Matthew Conlon made his early NYC appearances downtown at PS122, La Mama, Theater for the New City, and the HB Playwrights Theater. Recent East End engagements include The Dance of Death at LTV Studios; three seasons of Shakespeare at Sylvester Manor; To Kill a Mockingbird and Twelve Angry Men at The Suffolk; Quixote, Holmes and many others at Hampton Theatre Company; Andromeda with NPC; Fahrenheit 451 and The Crucible at Bay Street and Uncle Vanya at the Remsenburg Academy. A part of BST’s ‘92 build-out and the inaugural production of Men’s Lives, Matthew is profoundly grateful to Steve to return for another story told on the Long Wharf.

    Judah began acting in Louisiana before moving to Los Angeles to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Acting has given him the opportunity to grow, challenge himself, and connect with people through storytelling. He is grateful to be part of To Kill a Mockingbird and to share this experience with such a talented cast and creative team. He’s excited to bring this story to the stage and hopes audiences enjoy the experience as much as the cast and crew have enjoyed creating it. He is thankful for everyone who has supported him throughout his journey and for the opportunity to continue learning and growing as an artist.

    Hope is thrilled to be returning to Bay Street where she made her professional stage debut in Camelot (Sir Percival/Lady of the Court) directed by Scott Schwartz and played Pippin in The Great American Mousical directed by Julie Andrews. Other professional credits include Clara in Hitler’s Tasters at Guild Hall, and Calla in Eco, The Musical at Southampton Arts Center. Hope graduated with a BA from Sarah Lawrence College / University of Oxford in May 2026. Notable credits include Caryl Churchill’s The Skriker (Skriker), Twelfth Night (Sir Toby), Romeo and Juliet (Juliet), and How to Date a Feminist (Kate/Carina/Morag). She was also featured in Sarah Lawrence’s episode of The College Tour on Amazon Prime.     Erin Margaret Pettigrew is a first generation Belizean-American artist, actor, and mover from Los Angeles, California. With a BFA and MFA in acting Erin Margaret Pettigrew has had the pleasure to play on the stages at: Manhattan Theater Club, The Public Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Westport Country Playhouse, Bay Street Theater, Northern Stage, La Mama, The Gene Frankel Theater, RoundHouse Theater, Baltimore Center Stage, and international houses in Portugal, Scotland, and China. In recent years, Erin’s artist journey has expanded to assistant directing at New 42 Studios and Papermill Playhouse, and has facilitated alongside institutions such as CUNY, NYU, NYC Public Schools, NYC Drama Club, and is currently co-lead of the BCS Education Department. Through her passion for youth development, social reform, and educational reform, Erin’s life and art work is driven by the wisdom of storytelling, the human condition, and radical creativity, kindness, and connection.
