Judy Carmichael Trio
Peggy Lee meets Fats Waller meets Paula Poundstone
Join us at Bay Street Theater for an unforgettable evening of stride, swing, and classic jazz with the Judy Carmichael Trio, featuring Grammy-nominated pianist and vocalist Judy Carmichael, guitarist John Merrill, and Dan Block on saxophone and clarinet.
One of the world’s leading interpreters of stride and swing piano, Judy Carmichael has brought her infectious musicianship and personality to stages around the globe, from Carnegie Hall to Paris, Melbourne, Rio, and beyond. Count Basie famously nicknamed her “Stride,” a nod to her mastery of the demanding early jazz piano style.
For this special evening, Judy celebrates the irresistible music of Hollywood and Broadway musicals from the 1930s and ’40s, with favorites that evoke Fred Astaire, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and the golden age of American popular song, along with a few originals in the style.
Judy is joined by John Merrill on guitar and Dan Block on saxophone and clarinet, bringing the spirit, sophistication, and sheer fun of swing-era jazz to Sag Harbor.
And the music is only part of the fun. Judy’s quick wit and comedy chops are nearly as celebrated as her virtuosic piano playing. As Newsday put it:
“Judy Carmichael: Peggy Lee meets Fats Waller meets Paula Poundstone.”
Expect a lively night of dazzling musicianship, timeless melodies, great stories, and plenty of personality.
