Bonkers in the Boroughs is a world premiere comedy event featuring five original short plays starring Joy Behar and a cast of talented friends.

Smart, irreverent, and unmistakably New York, the evening explores relationships, family, friendship, and the daily absurdities that can push us to the edge—and keep us laughing. With Joy Behar’s fearless wit at its center, each play finds humor in the chaos of everyday life and the surprising connections that bring people together.

Funny, candid, and performed up close on Bay Street’s intimate stage, Bonkers in the Boroughs is an evening for anyone who knows that sometimes the only sane response to life is to laugh.

Joining Joy onstage will be Craig Bierko (Tony nom. The Music Man, Sex And The City); Veanne Cox (Tony nom. Company, Mrs. Maisel); Robert Cuccioli (Tony nom. Jekyll And Hyde, Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark); Illeana Douglas (Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders Show); and Lou Liberatore (Tony nom. Burn This, As Is).

Bonkers in the Boroughs is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Randal Myler, whose credits include It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues, Love, Janis, and Hank Williams: Lost Highway.

  • Joy Behar

    Joy Behar is among today’s leading comic talents. Whether performing standup comedy or interviewing politicians and artists, she is an original voice and leading woman on both stage and screen. She was a member of the original cast of ABC’s “The View” for 16 years, returning as co-host in September 2015 for the show’s three most recent seasons. Along with winning the 2009 Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, Behar is also the recipient of three MAC Awards, a CableACE Award and a 2000 GLAAD Award for her enduring friendship with the LGBTQ+ community. On television, she starred in two HBO specials and was a regular on the series “Baby Boom.” She also appeared in Woody Allen’s Amazon series “Crisis in Six Scenes.” In June 2016, Behar was inducted into the Brooklyn Walk of Fame at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, joining an impressive list of Brooklynites honored for their distinguished work in entertainment, sports, media and the arts. Behar has hosted her own shows, including a call-in radio show on WABC, “The Joy Behar Show” on HLN, and “Say Anything” on Current TV. Her film appearances include “This Is My Life,” directed by Nora Ephron, and Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery.” In theater, Behar starred in Nicky Silver’s play “The Food Chain,” for which she earned rave reviews, and also in the critically acclaimed play “The Vagina Monologues.” She also wrote and performed in her own solo show, “Me, My Mouth and I,” at the Cherry Lane Theatre. As a playwright, Behar has written “Crisis In Queens,” along with her short play “Bonkers In The Boroughs,” which was featured in the New York Comedy Festival in November 2023. Her new play, “My First Ex-Husband,” will be produced in New York City in January 2025. Behar has written five books, including two children’s books. Her most recent book, “The Great Gasbag: An A-to-Z Study Guide to Surviving Trump World,” was released in October 2017.

    Craig Bierko

    Growing up within his local community theater, Craig landed his big break on the CBS sitcom SYDNEY, in which he was cast opposite Valerie Bertinelli and Matthew Perry. His television credits include The Farrelly Brother’s UNHITCHED, BOSTON LEGAL, BLUE BLOODS, TINSTAR, THE GOOD WIFE, SEX AND THE CITY, and more recently he starred as Chet in UNREAL. Craig developed a feature slate as well. His best known roles are those of “Timothy” in the 1996 film THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, “Max Baer” in CINDERELLA MAN, and his comedic portrayal of Tom Cruise (played as “Tom Ryan”) in the spoof film SCARY MOVIE 4. He has also made Broadway appearances in the revival of GUYS AND DOLLS playing the role of “Sky Materson”, as “Peter” in the New York Philharmonic production of COMPANY, and as “Mr. Burke” in THE GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY. Most recently, he can be seen in the second season of HBO Max’s JULIA as “Todd” and with a recurring role on the second season of SEX/LIFE on Netflix. Craig most recently performed on stage in WINDOWS by Tawni O’Dell at The Town Hall.

    Veanne Cox

    Veanne has received a Special Drama Desk Award for 'Excellence and Significant Contributions to the Theatre' and an Obie Award for 'Sustained Excellence'. She has appeared on Broadway in An American in Paris, A Free Man of Color, La Cage aux Folles, Caroline or Change, The Dinner Party, Company (Tony Award nomination), and Smile. Off-Broadway: The Wedding Band, The Old Friends, The Most Deserving, Damn Yankees, Blind, Paradise Park, Spain, Last Easter, The Wooden Breeks, House and Garden, Labor Day, The Altruists, The Batting Cage, The Waiting Room, Flora the Red Menace, Freedomland, A Question of Mercy, The Food Chain, The Vagina Monologues. Film and TV includes: Only Murders in the Building, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Summoning Sylvia, The Mandalorian, Erin Brockovich, Big Eden, Beethoven's 4TH, You've Got Mail, Marci X, Odd Mom Out, Louie, Smash, Pan Am, Two Broke Girls, Seinfeld, Cinderella, Boston Legal, Royal Pains, Joan of Arcadia, all Law and Orders and the web series Indoor Boys (Emmy nomination) and Cady Did.     Robert Cuccioli

    Robert Cuccioli is a Broadway actor, singer and director who’s critically acclaimed performance as the dual title roles in the Broadway hit Jekyll & Hyde received him a TONY nomination, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, FANY and Chicago’s Joseph Jefferson Awards. Robert made his Broadway debut as Inspector Javert in Les Miserables and was last seen on Broadway as Dr. Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. He boasts an extensive list of Off-Broadway credits which include And The World Goes ‘Round, Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris, A Touch of the Poet, Rothschild and Sons, Snow Orchid, The White Devil, White Guy on the Bus, Caesar and Cleopatra, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, Til Death, and Stephen Schwartz’s The Baker’s Wife last season at The Classic Stage Company. Equally respected for his work in the Classics, Shakespeare and Contemporary Plays as well as Musicals, Robert has performed at such notable Regional Theatres as The Guthrie, Paper Mill Playhouse, The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ, DC, and PA, The McCarter, George Street Playhouse, The MUNY and at the historic Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC. Additionally, his acting work has earned him 2 Helen Hayes Award nominations, a Offie nomination (London), 2 film festival nominations for his film work and an IRNE nomination as best director. Television credits include: The Sinner, Elementary, White Collar, Sliders, Baywatch, and most of the ABC Soaps including The Guiding Light.     Illeana Douglas

    Actress Illeana Douglas is known for playing fearless, often outspoken women in classic films like Goodfellas, Cape Fear, To Die For and Grace of My Heart as well as Picture Perfect, Message in a Bottle, Stir of Echoes, and cult classic Ghost World. Her latest film The Greatest Man in The World will be released in 2026. On television, Illeana received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Angela on Six Feet Under and has appeared on Goliath, Search Party, Shrill, Entourage, Ugly Betty, Seinfeld, Frasier, and of course all of the Law and Order’s. She created and starred in the multi award winning first ever branded web series Easy to Assemble sponsored by IKEA. Illeana is the granddaughter of two-time Academy Award–winning actor Melvyn Douglas. A classic film lover and historian, she interviewed a pantheon of cinema greats for Turner Classic Movies and hosted Trailblazing Women, and Funny Women. She’s also a film essayist on Joe Dante’s, Trailers From Hell, and has participated in scores of film documentaries, including Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed, CNN: The Movies, 78/52, Greatest Cult Films of All Time, The True Adventures of Raoul Walsh, Kino Lorber’s Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers, which she executive-produced and hosted. Illeana’s film memoir, I Blame Dennis Hopper: And Other Stories from a Life Lived In and Out of the Movies, was named “one of the best books of 2015” by Entertainment Weekly. She also authored Connecticut in the Movies : From Dream Houses to Dark Suburbia (2023) Her current book is Jungle Red! The Making of MGM’s The Women will be out September 2026.
