Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird

Director: Stephen Hamilton
Jean Louis Finch (Scout) — Atticus’s daughter and Jem’s sister. She delivers the opening and closing lines and provides much of the narrative voice. While the novel is told from her perspective, the play shares the story with Jem and Dill. Age 30s.
Jeremy Finch (Jem)— Scout’s older brother, on the cusp of adulthood. He is determined to protect his sister and father from the prejudice and potential violence of the summer’s events Age 30s.
Atticus Finch — A white property lawyer in Maycomb County, Alabama, and the play’s protagonist. He defends Tom Robinson, a Black man falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell. In the original novel, Atticus is the embodiment of justice and empathy; in Sorkin’s version, he is portrayed as a flawed protagonist. Age 50s.
Calpurnia — Originally a black woman who works as a maid for the Finch family’s maternal grandmother, she has raised Scout, Jem, and Atticus after their mother’s death. She is the one who challenges Atticus’s belief that everyone is good, even when that is not true. Age: 50s.
Charles Baker Harris (Dill) — Stays with Aunt Rachel in Maycomb. He pretends his father is a train engineer but admits he has never met him and that his mother is “looking for a new dad.” Dill co-narrates with Scout and Jem, often providing humour through his naivety. Age 30s.
Judge Taylor — Beneath his lazy exterior, he misses nothing and runs his courtroom with absolute, strict control if anyone steps out of line. He tries to maintain a sense of justice and decorum in a deeply prejudiced town. Age 60s.
Heck Tate — He is the Sheriff of the town who has a real sense of right and wrong. He has the utmost respect for Atticus and they have known each other a long time. He is very aware of the injustice of Maycomb. Age 40s.
Mayella Ewell —She is a young woman who is lonely and overworked and will lie to get what she needs. She is the daughter of Bob Ewell and her major role in life is to care for her seven siblings. Age 19-25.
Boo Radley — a lonely, reclusive, and unassuming figure who is simultaneously kind, generous, and chivalrous. He saves the life of Jem and Scout. Age 30-40.
Horace Gilmer — He is the prosecuting attorney who treats Tom Robinson with rudeness and contempt. Age 30s.
Walter Cunningham/Dr. Reynolds/Link Deas — played by one actor. Age 40-60.
Tom Robinson — Black man falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell. He has a wife and three children. An accident at age 11 left him unable to use his left arm — a fact that should exonerate him Age: 40-45.
Bob Ewell — A white man who falsely accuses Tom Robinson of raping his daughter. He threatens Atticus before the trial and is ultimately killed in the play’s climax. Age 30-45.
