DUTIES + RESPONSIBILTIES
The Lighting & Technical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing aspects of the technical operation of Bay Street Thater, provides technical expertise and support to crew and artists performing at the theater, and is responsible for the efficient, safe and economical use of resources.
Specific responsibilities include:
– Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities
– Determine, design, and setup the necessary technical support, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, for off season events and performances presented at BST including, but not limited to concerts, comedian performances, outdoor performances, lobby shows, galas, and other special events/projects as needed
– Be present for all performances, troubleshoot any necessary lighting issues.
– Operate lighting system for off season events; Assist in recruiting and training of technical staff for individual shows as needed
– Orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitate the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility
– Coordinate equipment rentals for off season performances and rentals as needed
– Ensure that the technical operation of the theatre is always safe and complies with current legislation and industry standards
– Ensure a consistently high standard of technical support to visiting companies / artists
– Lead or assist as required with off season pre-rigging, load-ins, and load-outs
– Liaise with House Manager on operational matters during performances
Technical/Production Equipment Management
The Lighting & Technical Supervisor has primary responsibility for managing the physical inventory of equipment at BST and its shop. The Lighting & Technical Supervisor establishes and enforces policies and practices that ensure the highest levels of safety and responsible usage.
Specific responsibilities include:
– Establish and administer equipment maintenance timetables and checklists that ensure technical equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly tested, and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed
– Maintain shop equipment tools, stock, and shop vehicles
– Assist the Production Manager in organizing crews and assist in pre-season maintenance and projects (house lights, shop renovations, building renovations, etc)
– Coordinate with Deputy Director to contact any necessary contractors/vendors to deal with repairs in the venue
The Lighting & Technical Supervisor performs other support functions and duties as needed. Bay Street Theater is a growing organization with a small staff. Employees are often called upon to perform other duties essential to accomplish organizational goals and meet important deadlines.

Employees of Bay Street Theater will be expected to report to all assignments on time, perform duties in a professional manner, dressed in appropriate attire, and will wear appropriate safety protective gear when necessary.
Compensation: $1,275/week subject to required state and federal withholdings. Employes are paid weekly per the Theater policies via direct deposit. The payroll week will be Monday through Sunday and is distributed on Thursday of each week.
Reports to: Director of Production, Deputy Director
Location: The position is on-site, in Sag Harbor, NY. Housing is provided.
Schedule: The work schedule is determined by the Director of Production. This position requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BST’s performance calendar. The Lighting & Technical Supervisor will work an agreed upon schedule, inclusive of events which are frequently on weekends and weekend nights. There may be times when the Lighting and Lighting & Technical Supervisor is called on to work more than 40 hours in a week.

Bay Street Theater (BST) strives to be a home to the East End performing arts community, as well as a professional LORT summer theater festival. The Lighting & Technical Supervisor organizes the technical requirements for all off season events, including stage setup, lighting requirements, and related production functions for events including but not limited to touring and local theatrical productions, recitals, film screenings, musical concerts, and comedic acts. The Lighting & Technical Supervisor is responsible for exemplifying customer service to visiting performers and designers to make each artist experience at BST smooth and efficient.

Bay Street Theatre will provide shared housing with a single bedroom with utilities and house maintenance at no expense to the employee. Please note that per New York State law, Bay Street may claim this provision at the equivalent rate of $84/week. New York is an at-will state meaning that employees are considered “at-will” employees which means that either the employee or the employer can terminate this business relationship for any reason or no reason at all at any time, unless a law provides otherwise.
