SYBIL CHRISTOPHER

Founder/Artistic Director of Bay Street Theatre

Sybil Christopher was a former actress and trained at LAMDA in London, England. She appeared in Harvey in the West End and in Shakespeare’s Histories as part of the Festival of Britain at the Memorial Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon. She was Myfanwy Price in the celebrated 1954 BBC recording of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas with Richard Burton, Hugh Griffith and Rachel Roberts. A founder of the New Theatre on 54th Street in New York, their outstanding productions included The Knack, directed by Mike Nichols, Scuba Duba starring Jerry Orbach and The Mad Show written by Mary Rodgers. Sybil opened the wildly successful and iconic club, ARTHUR, with Roddy McDowall and Edward Villella which played host to some of the world’s most glamorous from Princess Margaret, Roger Daltry and The Who to Tennessee Williams to Wilt Chamberlin during 1965-1969. Sybil was one of the founders of Bay Street Theatre and served as Artistic Director for nearly 22 years. She was the heart and soul of Bay Street Theatre and will not only be missed by all her friends at Bay Street Theatre but also by the entire Sag Harbor Village community. Our thoughts are with her family that she loved dearly.
