My Life: The Musical
This is your life; let's make it into a musical.
Ages 9-12
In this camp, students will work together with a teaching artist to create and perform their very own musical! In addition to developing ideas for an original script, students will learn standard songs and choreography that culminate in a performance on the Bay Street Mainstage on Friday for family and friends. Students will receive instruction in acting, singing, dance, and musical theater history; and they will also participate in creative theater games and improvisations that help to develop communication skills and encourage them to stretch their imaginative abilities.
My Life: The Musical will be taught by Valerie diLorenzo.
Valerie diLorenzo is a professional Actor/Singer, Director, and Performing Arts Educator. She is delighted to return for her third season with Bay Street. Her Directing and Teaching Artist venues include: Lincoln Center, NYU, SUNY Purchase, SUNY Stonybrook, TADA!, Inside Broadway, Westhampton Beach PAC, NYC Board of Education and numerous schools and organizations throughout the country. Her musical theatre program, Theatrix, was honored by Lincoln Center as “an exemplary integration of the theatrical and creative into the classroom and student life.” She is committed to fostering creativity, individuality, and confidence in her students. Valerie maintains an independent vocal coaching studio and some of her students appeared in such Broadway shows including Rent, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mamma Mia and Chicago. Valerie maintains an active life onstage as well; she is proud member of Actors Equity and a NYC MAC and Bistro award cabaret artist. Memorable roles include: Rose in Gypsy, Mrs. Johnstone in Bloodbrothers, Sheila in A Chorus Line, Nancy in Oliver!, and Miss Hannigan in Annie. No matter what she does, however, people seem to be most interested in the fact that Valerie has been singing the National Anthem for the New York Mets for over 15 seasons.
