Come play with some of Shakespeare’s most classic stories and make them your own! Along with a teaching artist, campers will stretch their imaginations and explore creative ways of expressing the popular themes and language of The Bard. The camp will culminate in a presentation of the campers’ original work for family and friends to attend. 

 

TEACHING ARTIST: Bethany Dellapolla

Bethany Dellapolla is an actress, teacher, director, and choreographer based in NYC and Long Island. She received her BA in Theatre Performance from SUNY New Paltz, where she was named one of the Outstanding Graduates of her class. She also graduated (with honors), from LIU with her Masters Degree in Childhood Education, and holds teaching certifications in Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Theatre Education. Teaching and coaching credits include: Broadway Dance Center, Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, Bay Street Theater, TADA! Youth Theatre, Pierson Middle-High School, Gateway Playhouse, and NexGen Youth Theatre, her own youth theatre company based in NYC (www.nexgenyouththeatre.com). She has been fortunate to direct and/or choreograph many shows for children and adults as well, such as The Little Mermaid, The Drowsy Chaperone, Anything Goes, Seussical, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan Jr., The Boyfriend, Really Rosie, Willy Wonka, Shrek, 13, Fame!, and The World Goes 'Round. As an actress, Bethany has performed in everything from independent film, to radio and theatre. Most recently, Bethany was seen as Mrs. Potts/Villager in Beauty and the Beast (BroadwayWorld.com nomination - Best Actress in a Musical), Steph in Reasons to Be Pretty, and Nurse/Worker 2 in Eco: The Musical (NYMF). Favorite regional credits include: Love, Loss, and What I Wore (BroadwayWorld.com nomination – Best Actress in a Play), The Graduate (Elaine), Cabaret (Frenchie), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Olive), Ruthless! Who Needs A Script
Category: Education September 14 through October 19

Students learn the basics of improvisation and deepen their theater skills while developing their prowess as improvisers through a variety of exercises, games and improv forms. A final presentation occurs on the last day of class on the Bay Street stage for friends and family!

Meet Willy Shakes!
Category: Education September 14 through October 19

In this class middle and high school students are introduced to the plays, characters and world of William Shakespeare. Students will work on scenes and develop characters from the Bard’s plays as well as get a healthy dose of Shakespeare’s life and times. The class will culminate in a final presentation for friends and family on the Bay Street stage!

Teen Scene
Category: Education September 14 through October 19

Teen actors will work on material from the contemporary and classical theater. In addition, participants will be exposed to a variety of different acting approaches: Stanislavski, Strasberg and Meisner, among them. Final scenes will be presented on the last day of class on the Bay Street stage for friends and family!

Everybody Can Act
Category: Education September 9 through October 28

This very popular offering returns to Bay Street in the fall of 2019! Join Bay Street’s Director of Education and Community Outreach Allen O’Reilly in this community-based offering where participants will learn the basics of theater and acting technique, trough games, short scenes and improvisation. All members of the class will work on a monologue as well as a scene that will be presented on the Bay Street stage on the final day of class!

World Story Wednesdays
Category: Education September 11 through October 16

Students explore classic fairy tales and world stories and become familiar with the basic theater training techniques of building focus, concentration and creating an ensemble and showcase their work and at a final performance for friends and family on the Bay Street stage!

Just For Laughs Improv!
Category: Education September 11 through October 30

Join improv master Scott Baker and learn both short form and character development improvisation techniques. Participants will gain confidence in life as well as on the stage and have the opportunity to impress their friends and family in a final showcase on the last day of class!
