Join Bay Street’s Director of Education and Community Outreach Allen O’Reilly in this community-based offering where participants will learn the basics of theater and acting technique, through games, short scenes, and improvisation. All members of the class will work on a monologue as well as a scene that will be presented on the Bay Street stage on the final day of class.

For adults ages 18 and up. Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting February 3 through March 24. $200 for eight sessions.

 

Allen O’Reilly has been an educator and professional actor for over thirty years. He has served as Artistic Director at Young Audiences of Atlanta, Education Director at Georgia Shakespeare and most recently Education Programs Manager at Cleveland Play House. While at Georgia Shakespeare, Allen directed touring productions of: Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition, for Georgia Shakespeare’s Children’s Theater Allen directed Jungle Book, The Frog Prince, The Emperor and The Nightingale, and Mighty Myths and Legends! In 2005, Allen directed and co-wrote a bi-lingual elementary tour in Spanish entitled Miguel’s Shakespearean Adventure! At Cleveland Play House, Allen directed Kicked! An antibullying piece that toured Northeast Ohio; Allen was also instrumental in the establishment of CPH Academy, an acting academy for youth and adults while at Cleveland Play House. Allen has acted at Bay Street Theater in Macbeth (also director and adaptor), Moby Dick (also adaptor), Cleveland Play House, Geva Theatre. Clarence Brown and the Alliance Theatre and was an associate artist at Georgia Shakespeare for twenty-four seasons. Television and film credits include Sleepy Hollow, TURN: Washington’s Spies, Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, The Assassin’s Code, The Enormity of Life, and Wicked Trilogy.

Instructor Angelika Ahrens has been presenting business news on ORF television for 20 years and has hosted major events on stage in front of thousands of viewers, heads of state and government, and royalty. ORF is one of the most important TV stations in German-speaking Europe. She has also reached the semi-finals of Dancing with the Stars in Austria - live every Friday with millions of viewers. Special yoga exercises, meditation, music therapy, breathing, and concentration techniques have helped her achieve all this. She is excited to share her knowledge, tips, and tricks in this workshop. Presenting yourself well is also extremely important for business people. Especially when it comes to social media. Angelika has a strong background in journalism and live moderation, is a qualified yoga teacher, and attended the world's first Breath Technology Congress in NY. She teaches anti-stress exercises for Wall Street firms in New York and Chicago.
