THIS IS SPINAL TAP
SCEENING AT BAY STREET THEATRE
MONDAY, JULY 9

Bay Street Theatre is presenting This is Spinal Tap, a classic rock mockery film on Monday, July 9 at 8 pm. The film is $10 at the door with open seating.

This 1984 film is a hilarious rock and roll musical mock documentary directed by Rob Reiner about a 1982 legendary British heavy metal band Spinal Tap. The group is attempting an American comeback tour accompanied by a fan who is also a film-maker. The resulting documentary, with clips of powerful performances of Tap's pivotal music and profound lyrics, candidly follows the group heading towards a crisis. The movie satirizes the wild personal behavior and musical pretensions of hard rock and heavy metal musical bands.

The three main members of Spinal Tap are David St. Hubbins, Derek Smalls and Nigel Tufnel played by Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, and Christopher Guest. Reiner appears as Marty DiBergi, the maker of the documentary. Other actors of the movie are Tony Hendra, June Chadwick, Paul Shaffer, Fred Willard, Fran Drescher, Bruno Kirby, Howard Hesseman, Ed Begley, Jr., Patrick Macnee, Anjelica Huston, Vicki Blue, Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal all play supporting roles or make cameo appearances in the movie.

Reiner and the three main actors are credited as the writers of the movie, based on the fact that much of the dialogue was ad libbed by them. Several dozen hours of footage were filmed before Reiner edited it to the released movie.
