Local Time: Tracy Mitchell of the Bay Street Theatre

Originally hailing from Cleveland, Tracy Mitchell has been living in Sag Harbor since 1995, and full time since 2001. She's the Executive Director of the Bay Street Theatre, the acclaimed 299-seat theater on Sag Harbor's Long Wharf that was founded in 1991.

How did you discover Sag Harbor?
My family and I discovered it after moving out full time to my home in Sagaponack. After our first winter of not seeing lights for miles around us, we realized Sag Harbor was the only place to be.

What makes Sag Harbor so special?
It's clearly the people. The community that we all share together…it's extremely unique. It has that small town flavor with an urban flair.
It's your last meal in Sag Harbor. Where are you going and what are you ordering?
The Beacon. I'd start with the pork belly appetizer followed by the lobster rigatoni. And a glass of whatever owner David Lowenberg recommends.
Favorite place to grab a drink?
If it's at sunset, then the Beacon. For a weekend brunch, I love Dockside. And after seeing a great show at the Bay Street Theatre, nothing beats the American Hotel for a late-night drink and a chat with Ted or Vinny.
What's your Sag Harbor hidden secret?
My latest favorite is being part of a CSA--community supported agriculture. You pay a small fee to essentially partner with a local farmer and each week you get a share of whatever they've grown. In my case, I love Sunset Beach farm and they deliver the produce right to the farmers market. It's an amzing deal and so far it's been so much food we can barely keep up with eating it all!
Favorite place to go to in the Hamptons that's not in Sag Harbor?
I really love going to Montauk for lunch at Duryea's and for drinks at the Montauket. It makes me feel like I'm a million miles away.
You wake up on a gorgeous summer morning, the first thing you do is...
Have my coffee on the dock and then either go on a standup paddle board ride or head out on a kayak. Then it's usually over to the theatre for a matinee.
How do you stay in shape in Sag Harbor?
Definitely the TRX Suspension Training class with Linda Silich at Studio 89.
A person who lives in New York is called a New Yorker. A person who lives in Sag Harbor is called a...
Very lucky person!
