SCOTT SCHWARTZ BRINGS
DRAMATIC NEW CHANGES
TO BAY STREET THEATRE
IN 2014!

November 23, 2013 (Sag Harbor, NY) – While his tenure has not officially begun, new Artistic Director Scott Schwartz has already announced the start of his plans for a newly reinvigorated Bay Street Theatre for 2014, complete with a World Premiere and an American classic.

The summer Mainstage Season kicks off with the World Premiere of CONVICTION, a modern drama by Carey Crim and directed by Scott Schwartz. The show is produced in association with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Rubicon Theatre Company and Dead Posh Productions. The show is about Tom Hodges, a charismatic, confident and caring teacher who students adore and parents admire. The smart, wise-cracking colleague with all the answers. The neighbor who takes care of the neighborhood. The perfect husband and father. But when a student accuses Tom of crossing a line, everything changes. This delicately balanced, beautifully nuanced new family drama digs deep beneath the surface of a happy suburban existence to explore the damage done when seeds of mistrust are planted. It asks the question, "How can we live with conviction when some questions cannot be answered."

The Maintage Season continues from a world premiere to an American classic treasure with THE LITTLE FOXES, by Lillian Hellman. "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes." Lillian Hellman’s play is the story of the Hubbard family in Alabama in 1900 as they scheme, connive and campaign for control of the family business and fortune. A delicious portrait of devious and cut throat siblings who will do anything to get what they want. The play is also a prescient exploration of the effect of greed on American society, and it rings as true today as it did when originally produced in 1939.

The third show of the Mainstage Season will be a musical that will be announced soon.
